Two Blogger Awards In One: Mystery and Versatile

macmac.png

Thanks to Just Me (https://silentfall.blog) and  1WiseWoman (https://wisewoman2016.wordpress.com/) for nominating for the Mystery Blogger Award and Versatile Blogger Awards two weeks ago, respectively.  Just Me is already one of my favorite bloggers, thanks to her beautiful (and sometimes amazingly sexy) poetry and wonderful sense of humor, while 1WiseWoman has been a blog devoted to strength, awareness, and support of those with mental illness. As Just Me is also an aspie, I can really relate to each and am grateful for the kind words they leave on my blog. YOU LADIES ROCK.

In addition to Cocoons’ nomination for the Blogger Recognition Award, it’s been an AMAZING week for the blog, and I am too eager to use this time to once again say THANK YOU to ALL my readers. Whether you’ve known me since August, or followed me today, you’ve made this all possible.

Rules For The Mystery Bloggers Award is:

  1. Post the award logo/image on your blog
  2. Thank whoever nominated you and give a link to their blog.
  3. Mention the creator of the award and give a link as well.
  4. Nominate 10–20 deserving bloggers and notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.
  5. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; including one weird or funny question.

The rules for the Versatile Blogger Award state that you thank the blogger that nominated you, nominate 10 other bloggers (and a link to their blog) and list 7 interesting facts about yourself.

Firstly, lets answer the questions from Just Me

1.  Name one thing that you do that always feels right, no matter what.

In the words of Edgar Allen Poe, “With me poetry has not been a purpose, but a passion”

2.
Where do you draw the most inspiration for your blog?

Life on the spectrum, depression, Fall Out Boy, and girls
3.
Who is your favorite anti-hero and why?

Batman without a question. As an aspie, I really relate to his ability to do work from the shadows and be extremely focused and to the point.
4.  What is the inspiration behind the name of your blog?

It’s the summation of what you might call my writing. Nothing fancy here.
5.  And, finally, what is your favorite genre of music?

I really don’t have a favorite genre. I have favorite artists, but my tastes vary too much to like one specific genre. If I had to choose, it would be rock because of FOB. But I also admire Lecrae (rap), Lady Gaga (dance-pop), and Demi Lovato (pop rock).

Now, seven interesting facts about me..

  1. The longest I’ve had a friend is four months.
  2. I’ve drowned two smartphones
  3. Live in Baltimore. Never had a crabcake.
  4. Took voice lessons when I was eleven
  5. Mandy Kay is my favorite model
  6. I pulled out two teeth once because it was fun
  7. Blonde girls are my type

My five questions for my nominees

  1. Favorite country?
  2. Stranded on an island and you can only have one thing, what is it?
  3. Beyoncé or Rihanna?
  4. How do you eat French fries: ketchup on top, or on the side?
  5. Name one guilty pleasure

Blogger Recognition Award: Thanks For Choosing Me Over Everyone So Much Cooler

mac

For the third time in less than a year, I’ve been nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award.

This time? By my friend over at Cocoons Are Sometimes Comfy. https://cocoonsaresometimescomfy.wordpress.com/2017/05/15/blogger-recognition-award-when-being-recognized-is-nice/ One of my favorites on WordPress, I’ve grown close to the words to this poet’s fantastic words and similarities regarding life on the autism spectrum. The stories are sometimes eerily similar to what I’ve gone through, and the resounding strength that speaks far after I close the page is rarely outdone. Thank you friend, you’re the real MVP (or however they say it on social media)

Anyway, the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select 15 other bloggers for this award.
  6. Comment on each blog to let them know you’ve nominated them and a link to the post you created.

My blog started back in late August of last year.  I had known about my aspergers for four years but had done little to do anything about it. WordPress has always been addictive to me, but this was different. And better. Blogging gave my voice some wheels, and the knowledge I gained from books (and soon other bloggers, like my sweet soul sister’s Laina, Beth, and more recently the wonderful voice behind Just Me) began to steer my life into the direction I never thought it would. I started opening up, and sharing my experiences (https://marylandpoetblog.wordpress.com/2016/11/07/an-aspergians-confession-part-one/), being honest about the struggles my condition gave me (https://marylandpoetblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/18/an-aspergians-chemical-romance/?wref=tp), and really just discovering my voice as (from what I’ve been told) a pretty damn good poet. Thanks to so many wonderful voices, I’ve learned more about myself, become a better person because of it, and in turn been able to shine light for others who were just like I was just a few years ago.

Two pieces of advice for you new bloggers. One, just post. Pressing “publish” is the hardest part, but once you do it, the momentum will carry you to wherever you want to go. Don’t make yourself do anything. Let it happen, and you will be surprised what becomes of it. Two, say thanks. There are COUNTLESS blogs, so the fact that someone took the time to read (and maybe comment/reblog) yours is very, very special. Ever since I started, I always remember to say thank you to my readers. It’s not hard to do, and doesn’t take much time. It shows you care about others.

Now, to my nominations….

Catching Up: Blogger Recognition Award (Thanks Jamie!), and Published On SpillWords

wam

I had a fairly low-key week. In between social events (SEE, I can do this), studying for the GED, and daily life I was nominated for two awards this week by two awesome bloggers and published on SpillWords again.

Secondly, I was nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by my wonderful Aspie blogger friend Jamie https://aspierudegirl.wordpress.com/2017/01/24/the-blogger-recognition-award/

The Rules:

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your award.
  3. Give a brief story of how you blog started.
  4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  5. Select 15 other bloggers for this award.
  6. Comment on each blog to let them know you’ve nominated them and a link to the post you created.

How did Creative Writing Of A Marylander get started?

Well, it started back in late August of late year. Being an aspergian, I haven’t had a good time developing friendships and relationships, so I was looking for somewhere that I could be myself while also interacting with others like me. What started as something as a simple post each night blew up to what it is now: over 2,000 followers, over 120 posts, and nearly 13,000 views. I didn’t, and still don’t, do it for the numbers, though. I do it encourage other aspies to be who they are, regardless of where they are on the spectrum. I want them to know their voice is beautiful, and the more they share it, the better off the entire world is.

My advice to new bloggers:

I was just like you at one point: just another blog among the millions of blogs on WordPress. I think the most important thing to remember is to be YOU. Nobody wants to read what fifty other bloggers are doing. Come up with something unique and original, and the following will come. And even if it doesn’t, have confidence in the fact that you are doing what nobody else is. There’s power in that. Secondly, don’t leave your link in the comments of other bloggers. I see this enough to tell you it won’t get you reads, likes, or anything but a bad reputation.

My nominees: (It’s supposed to be fifteen, but I’m pressed for time a bit here)

The Mystery Blogger Award: Thank You Ivy!

wam

I had a fairly low-key week. In between social events (SEE, I can do this), studying for the GED, and daily life I was nominated for two awards this week by two awesome bloggers and published on SpillWords again. Firstly, I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award by Ivy over at https://thedepthofmylove.wordpress.com/2017/01/25/the-mystery-blogger-award/. The award was created by the fabulous and beautiful https://okotoenigma.wordpress.com/

Thanks Ivy and Okoto, YOU ROCK!

The rules:

  • Display award on blog
  • List rules
  • Mention creator of the award & provide link
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link
  • Say three things about yourself
  • Nominate 10 to 20 other bloggers
  • Notify nominees by commenting on their blog
  • Answer five questions from your nominee
  • Write five questions for your nominees to answer
  • Share your best post

Things about me? Call Of Duty III: Black Ops 3 is my favorite game ever, I’ve been a Chiefs fan eight years (and counting), and my only kiss came fifteen years ago (I was two at the time)…

My best post(s)

https://marylandpoetblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/18/an-aspergians-chemical-romance/

https://marylandpoetblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/01/ferris-wheels-and-stars/

My nominees are

And to answer Ivy’s questions

  1. What is the dream you most want to achieve?

It’s a tie between publishing a book, and being in love. Everybody talks about how amazing it is. I’d like to feel it once. If only once. At the same time, publishing a book is the pinnacle for a writer. Maybe I’ll get both (?)

2. If you’ve ever been in love, what was it like? If you’ve had your first kiss, what was it like? If not, what is your favorite dessert?

Being in love is spooning a quart sized container of cookie dough ice cream while watching all the latest Star Trek movies in one night

3. What do you do when no one’s watching? (Not in a creepy way 😅)

When nobody’s watching, I’m usually writing. I hate writing in front of people.

4. What is a really embarrassing moment you’ve had

There’s a few, but the most painful is that one time I blew off this girl. We were playing the park and I wasn’t very polite when we were done. I never saw her again.

5. What book that was assigned to you to read by a teacher did you most enjoy reading?

I don’t know. The books I read kinda lump together in my mind. I’m always reading, and I haven’t had a formal “class” in a while.

My five questions for you:

  1. Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?
  2. What impact did Barack Obama leave on you?
  3. How is 2017 going so far?
  4. What’s the last book you read?
  5. How would you make this blog better?

My 2016 Blogger Award Nominations

zerozero-2

Well, 2016 is almost over, isn’t it?

Yes, sadly it is.

But that doesn’t mean we should forget about the good, right?

2016 was a fun year for me. In spite of my worst self, I had a lot of positives to take from this year. I graduated from High School. I started a blog that brings awareness about Aspergers, depression, and addiction. I’m getting followed on Twitter and WordPress by those going through the things I am, and that encourages me. It tells me that I’m reaching souls, and that is the greatest achievement of any achievement. I’ve drastically improved as a writer since I first took up this calling a year ago, and everyday I feel more and more confident in not only the words I say, but why I say them. 2016 wouldn’t have been made without you, and because of that, I’m giving out awards to some of you. Note, this was made especially hard by the fact that many of my favorite blogs are in fact award-free, but enough of that. Let’s get into it.

Thanks to Elm for hosting the 2016 Blogger Awards https://justelm.wordpress.com/2016/10/15/the-2016-blogger-awards/

  1. Blog Of The Year: https://anonymouslyautistic.net/

“Autistic Anna” has been absolutely spectacular. Her posts have been educational, encouraging, and even funny at times. Her knowledge surpasses some “experts”. Finally, her blog reaches me at a personal level, like anyone on the spectrum, and she’s close to my heart because of it.

2. Kindest Blogger: https://sparkleblossomgoodsblog.wordpress.com/

Maureen leaves some incredible words on her blog, but I chose her for this slot because of what she leaves on mine. Every night before I go to bed, I read over my comments, and her words always stand out. She’s been with me nearly since I first joined WP, and I’m grateful for her every word.

3. Most Approachable Blogger: https://femiiesther.wordpress.com/

If you don’t mind having song lyrics being sent to you faster than your phone can receive them, having to explain what NFL is, and being emailed at midnight just to say hi, then Esther is your girl. We started talking a month ago, and she was very upfront and honest in the face of all my suspicions. (I don’t trust people, sorry Essie) I’ve learned a lot about her through WP and Twitter. She’s really sweet, and it doesn’t take much to get her going.

4. Best New Blogger: https://bbgscribbles.wordpress.com/

She’s only been on WP since September? I. Don’t. Care. Her poetry is beautiful, full of emotion, and always interesting to read. I hope she’s on here for a long, long time.

5. Most Positive Blog: https://millieschmidt.wordpress.com/ and https://puttingmyfeetinthedirt.com/

I nominated Millie because she combines writing with the cutest animal on this planet, cats. I happen to live with two, so I relate easily with her posts. I nominated Michelle because her poetry isn’t just tremendous, it’s uplifting. She was also kind enough to introduce me to her daughter, who is an amazing poet in her own right. Cats, writing, and poetry? You can’t get more positive than that!

6. Most Helpful Blogger: https://misslynn1.wordpress.com/

As I’ve grown on my blog, you’ve seen me talk more about my past. I used to be suicidal,  and while I’m grateful to have exercised those demons, I haven’t forgotten. Along with being an amazing host of #BlackDahliaProse, Kendra has been helpful and encouraging me as I fight through bouts of depression and recollections of my haunting childhood.

7. Best Looking Blogger: https://darkpink.wordpress.com/

Leyla’s blog is so simple, yet it’s so beautiful. Her images are unique and extraordinary, and she’s been with me since the beginning.

8. Most Relatable Blog: https://anaprose.wordpress.com/

Another great poet, Ana gets my nod for most relatable because we both write poetry, are introverts, and love taking pictures of the sky. Do her a favor and hit that follow button!

9. Most Creative Blogger:  https://allymomin5.wordpress.com/

Ally is an incredible young poet, and she kindly entered me into the Three Day, Three Quote Challenge a couple months ago. I liked that because it showed a willingness to partner with other writers and collaborate to produce different and creative works.

10. Funniest Blogger: https://tenacitytgoddess.com/

Check my comments to see why I nominated Tina for this award. LOL.

Seriously, though, Tina is great. She’s honest, real to the point of raw, and has been one of the most active people on my blog.

The Wildcard

Neither of these bloggers fit the above categories, but they deserve recognition. Davy (https://davydblog.com/) writes some incredible poetry and is one of my favorite followers. Stevie (https://stgreenie.wordpress.com/) writes very amusing poetry and is constantly on my Twitter timeline with great words of advice.

THANK YOU ALL FOR A GREAT 2016 (that isn’t quite over yet) AND GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE!

An Aspergian’s Week In Review

where-im-at-spillwords

This week has been a busy one for your Maryland poet. Firstly, I’ve been published on SpillWords for a THIRD time. My poem “Where I’m At”, takes a look at what I’ve gone through lately and why I am the person I am today.

Here’s an excerpt, and you can read the rest here (http://spillwords.com/where-im-at/)

I hate exercise

because no girl wants me anyway

so what’s the point in losing weight

I eat too much

because I love and hate…

Secondly, I was nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award, this time my fellow spectrumite in Marisa Ulrich. She’s a regular on my blog, and I’m grateful for her contributions, as well as her own outlook from an autistic life(https://brokencookiessite.wordpress.com/2016/12/19/they-gave-me-a-mystery-blogger-award/).

So, what is the Mystery Blogger Award?

The “Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion. Created by Okoto Enigma.

Rules:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

So, three things about me? For one, I love cats. They are the sweetest animals, and they provide a TON of entertainment. I live with two, and there’s nothing like getting licked on the face to start the day. They also steal your food, if you let them. Secondly, Fall Out Boy is my favorite band. “Immortals” was the very first song I listened to of theirs, and ever since I’ve been hooked. “Infinity On High” is my favorite album, and while I listen to This Ain’t A Scene the most, I can’t decide between Dance, Dance/Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today/Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes/Grand Theft Autumn as my favorite. Patrick Stump has grown a lot on me. I’m not a big fan of his voice early on, but he’s improved in recent albums.

I’m nominating https://myrandomrantings.com/ for this award. Her poetry is outstanding, and I really enjoy the hope that emanates from her words. I hope you’d check her out.

Here’s the link to my best post (in my opinion), one of my older posts. It didn’t get a lot of likes then, but…https://marylandpoetblog.wordpress.com/2016/09/06/the-mess-of-it-all-a-poem-of-loving-remembrance/

Three Quotes, Three Days Challenge: Day One

a_northern_light_cover

Firstly…

I would like to thank https://allymomin5.wordpress.com/ for nominating me for the three quotes three days challenge. It’s my first time being nominated for something, and I’m honored that she picked me over so many more veteran bloggers. Do her a favor and go read her posts, too.

She’s a good read, trust me.

For the first day of three quotes, three days challenge, I’ll start with one of my favorite book characters, Mattie Gokey from Jennifer Donnelly’s A Northern Light. I admire her, because like myself, she loved books and loved to write.

  1. “What I saw next stopped me dead in my tracks. Books. Not just one or two dozen, but hundreds of them. In crates. In piles on the floor. In bookcases that stretched from floor to ceiling and lined the entire room. I turned around and around in a slow circle, feeling as if I’d just stumbled into Ali Baba’s cave. I was breathless, close to tears, and positively dizzy with greed.”

2. “For the first time, I saw what was in his heart, and I wondered if he might ever want to look deep enough to see mine.”

3. “As I nodded and smiled and umm-hmm’d and oh, my’d my way down the drive, I wondered if boys had any sort of magazine that told them how to attract women and, if so, did it ever tell them to put the girls’ interests first?”

Here are my nominees for Day One

https://areadingwritr.wordpress.com/

https://thesarahdoughty.wordpress.com/

https://inspiredstoriesandpoems.wordpress.com/

Here are the rules for the challenge,

  1. Three quotes for three days.
  2. Three nominees each day (no repetition).
  3. Thank the person who nominated you.
  4. Inform the nominees.
