like a river

don’t sweat it

I’ll take the stairs

I’ll watch you fall out of love

into despair

with him

with them

you feel wanted, appreciated

this makes you happy, glad

to be alive

to be

but you’re dying

and I’m tired of trying

the mirror is hideous

so you stare at them to escape the pain

soul ignoring

so draining

while I take the stairs

explaining the beauty of silence

like a river

I’ll arrive

but as myself

not a shroud of what was

whittled by the iron sickle of conformity
